Tonight's marquee matchup

Mumbai Indians host Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede with dew rolling in by the 12th over.

The FanCode desk walks every T20 contest through the same lens: venue behaviour, dew factor, role rotation, and the captaincy arithmetic you only learn by sitting through 14-over windows. Tonight we cross that against the two most-tested squads in the league.

How the newsroom produces the desk ledger

3 desks · each on a separate beat
Desk 01 · Cricket

Source ladder: BCCI release → Sportradar feed → Cricbuzz calibration

Every squad announcement is verified against the official board release before any selection ledger is published. If a discrepancy sits for more than 15 minutes we hold the copy and add a corrections note.

Desk 02 · Multi-sport

ISL, PKL, BBL, ILT20, IL T20, Euro Cup qualifiers

Multi-sport editors cover football, kabaddi, tennis and basketball on a single rota. Each beat has a dedicated anchor — three of them hold national press credentials.

Desk 03 · Fantasy

Selection logic explained, not promised

Captain picks are reasoned, not handed to you as a fait accompli. We publish the math: format differential, role fit, venue history, last-five form, ownership band, and ceiling tier.

Format desk — choose your match architecture

Different formats, different contests, different captaincy logic
20-over

T20: aggressive differential

Format 20 overs · Death overs weighted 2x in our selection logic

Captaincy lands on powerplay runners and death-overs finishers. Differential picks value opening partner shift, dew-window swing bowlers, and bench strikers in the role of finisher.

T20 guide →
50-over

ODI: balanced selection

Format 50 overs · Middle overs are the captaincy window

Middle-overs spinners, set anchors at 3, and rotating strike in the second powerplay. Test-ready bowlers carry premium value when the opposition is left-handed.

ODI guide →
Multi-day

Test: bowler-heavy composition

Format 5-day · Spinner index drives the captaincy matrix

Captaincy lands on the second-innings spinner index for matches on sub-continent pitches; seamers carry the load on green-tinged surfaces. Allrounders are weighted highest in the role-rotation ledger.

Test guide →
10-over

T10: all-out attack

Format 10 overs · Every batter is a top-order option

Eight of eleven batters typically play. The captaincy window is purely on boundary-per-ball rate — ceiling-tier players trump steady anchors regardless of historical role.

The FanCode desk publishes a verified payouts column on Mondays. The figures below are reproduced directly from the operator's weekly disclosure. What we will not invent

You will never see a fake captain name, an invented payout figure, or a fictitious winner handle on this desk. The verified ledger is the only number we publish; everything else you read on the desk is sourced commentary on the sport itself.

If you spot a discrepancy, the corrections column at the bottom of every page records the fix, the timestamp and the editor on duty. Editorial accountability, not marketing copy.

State-by-state eligibility — MeitY & PROG Act 2025 framework

Restricted states publish the desk reference, not legal advice

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 (PROG Act) frames real-money gaming at the central level. The MeitY online gaming rules (Rule 4, Rule 6) carry the certification pattern. Six state regimes continue to disallow paid fantasy entry — Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Sikkim, Telangana, Nagaland. Meghalaya operates its own permitted list under the PROG Act framework. This section names the regime, not legal interpretation. Players in restricted states are blocked at account-creation by the operator.

Fantasy selection explainer — the captaincy arithmetic on tonight's contest

A worked example · MUM v CSK · 19:30 IST
Worked captain pick

Why J. Pandya carries the captain weight

The captain in a FanCode Pick 7 contest doubles the points. Pick 5 multiplies by 1.6x for captain, vice by 1.4x. We work the desk captaincy from three inputs — last-five form, venue-specific match-up data, and the ownership band. J. Pandya owns 9.4% on the board (premium-but-affordable), his last five sits at 41 with the ball in hand, and he has batted 3.2 overs of the Wankhede death window in three recent matches. Vice captain defaults to A. Mukund — top-order anchor with ceiling 142 and consistent boundary rate at this venue.

What the desk will not promise

The desk does not promise a winning team. Captain picks and differential picks are reasoned recommendations drawn from public match data, last-five form, ownership distribution and venue behaviour. Fantasy wins depend on contest size, payout tier and opponent moves.

If you are brand-new to FanCode fantasy, read the how to play lane first — it walks you through Pick 5 vs Pick 7 vs Practice contests and the captain multiplier. Already on the app? Head to the fantasy tips ledger for venue-by-venue captaincy matrices.

Reader questions desk — tonight's top asks

Answers come from the editor on desk

Is FanCode legal in India?

FanCode fantasy contests are permitted under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 framework, except in states that have notified a separate prohibition. We list the six restricted states in the eligibility section above. The desk does not provide legal advice.

How is the captain pick different from the captain pick on Dream11?

On FanCode Pick 5 contests, the captain carries a 1.6× multiplier and the vice 1.4×. On Pick 7, captain is 2× and vice 1.5×. The desk works the selection maths for both formats and publishes the captaincy arithmetic in plain language.

What is the FanCode refer code?

If a refer code is published during a sign-up campaign, we surface it on the refer code page. Otherwise we link you straight to the first-party install route with no code prefilled — signups without a code still qualify for the standard welcome pipeline.

What about downloads and the APK?

The official FanCode app is available on the Play Store and as a signed APK. We host the latest APK reference with the build number and signature hash. We do not host mirrors.

What is the customer-care number?

The customer-care desk operates through the in-app support tab. We do not publish a publicly-verified phone number because number verification changes quarter to quarter. Use the customer care lane for the latest update.

Who owns FanCode?

FanCode is owned by Dream Sports, a Mumbai-based sports technology group. The desk records the ownership and corporate lineage on the owner lane.
